It's easy to write suicidal people off as mentally unstable or think of them as foolish, but there are societal reasons for suicide that go beyond mental health. While it's true that mood disorders are present in 30 percent of suicide cases, depression is found on the psychological profile in almost every case.

I recently came to the realization that I've been getting sick at the rate of at least twice a semester, and lately, more like once a month. I'm not talking about serious things like swine flu or pneumonia. In fact, I haven't been sick enough to miss school.

Who'll clean the air? Editor--The U. S. Surgeon General and California's Air Resources Board have determined that outdoor second-hand smoke is a toxic air contaminant with no safe level of exposure. It's up to the board to protect the public from an identified poison.

Racism is a toxin that has polluted this country for too long. One area that is most infected is education.
It was once illegal to teach an enslaved African how to read. Public education was created to educate the formerly enslaved, but segregation forced Black people into "separate and unequal" schools until the mid-20th century.
