Laney College Food Service Manager Scott Strong issued an announcement about the cafeteria services for the spring semester.
Beginning on Monday, Feb 8, the cafeteria will once again be a full-service facility, offering full breakfasts and hot lunch items, as well as sandwiches and salads. Strong said that he has noticed an increase in enrollment for this semester, and will respond by increasing quantities of prepared food.
Students also have some new developments to look forward to in the cafeteria this semester. These include a small salad bar created by Chef Beverly Bowes, and a sandwich bar with fresh—made sandwiches to order. Chef Darryl Nichols will also run a burger grill offering hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and fries.
The hours of operation will be 8 a.m.-1 p.m. for hot items, and 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. for deli counter items on Monday through Thursday. Breakfast will be served from 8- 10:45 a.m., and hot lunches from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. On Fridays, the cafeteria will be open from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m., and the deli counter will be closed.
The Laney cafeteria is a student-run operation, with all products cooked and served by students in the Culinary Arts Department. The first two weeks of the semester are training weeks, in which the students learn basic skills. As a result, the cafeteria has had only limited options since school started on Jan. 21.
